Rupee appreciation has further added to the woes of the Indian exporters. Lack of a comprehensive fibre policy, poor coordination between different Government agencies, poor industry integration, low scale and competence, near absence of machinery manufacturing capabilities and will to modernise and upgrade are other negative aspects plaguing the textile industry.

The Summit highlighted the need for implementation of TUFS, SITPs and Apparel Parks schemes in order to give the much-needed boost to the sector. Need to cut down exorbitant power and production costs also found mention in the document presented by all the Working Groups to the Prime Minister.

One fact that clearly emerged and which was duly acknowledged by all was that Textile Ministry, for the first time since Independence, sincerely attempted to bring out the industry perspectives under its ambit and showed inclination to solve all the above issues in due course.
