Total exports to Mainland of China for outward processing

In the second quarter of 2007, 38% of Hong Kong's total exports to the mainland of China (the Mainland) were for outward processing. The proportion was 50% for domestic exports and 37% for re-exports.
On the other hand, 62% of Hong Kong's imports from the Mainland were related to outward processing, according to statistics released on September 20 by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD). Over the same period, 79% of Hong Kong's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing in the Mainland.
The corresponding proportions for exports to the Mainland in the second quarter of 2006 were 40% for total exports, 57% for domestic exports and 39% for re-exports; while proportions for imports from the Mainland and for re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were 66% and 82% respectively.
In the first half of 2007, 37% of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing; the figure was 48% for domestic exports and 37% for re-exports. On the other hand, 63% of Hong Kong's imports from the Mainland were related to outward processing. Over the same period, 78% of Hong Kong's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing in the Mainland.
The corresponding proportions in the first half of 2006 were 37% for total exports to the Mainland, 54% for domestic exports to the Mainland, 37% for re-exports to the Mainland, 66% for imports from the Mainland and 81% for re-exports of Mainland origin to other places.
