The inspiration for smaller-scaled upholstered furniture originated four years ago from the urban revitalization occurring in several metropolitan cities, where empty nesters were downsizing to smaller condos, apartments or homes.

Rowe soon discovered that the Mini Mod Collection also appealed to people who had to contend with fourth floor walk-ups, irregularly shaped walls, or the mere fact of frequent moves.

The reality of housing market has added another dimension to the need for smaller-scaled furniture. The first sentence from a recent Wall Street Journal article sums it up, “The McMansion may be shrinking.”

Kelly Evans reports on how the softening housing market has caused some home developers to offer smaller floor plans.“That seems to be what buyers suddenly want in an era of high prices and tougher financing,” write Evans in the September 12th article.
