Eckhard Cordes to be Chairman of METRO Management Board

Dr. Eckhard Cordes
The new Chairman of the Management Board of METRO AG will be Dr. Eckhard Cordes (56). He was elected member of the Management Board at the meeting of the Supervisory Board of METRO AG on 26 September 2007 in Düsseldorf and at the same time also nominated Chairman of the Management Board.
Dr. Cordes will take up office on 1 November 2007. Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber (61) resigned from his duties as CEO and Chairman of the Management Board with effect from the close of business on 31 October 2007.

Dr. Cordes also thanked his predecessor for his outstanding achievements for the retail group: “In the past years, Dr. Körber succeeded in transforming the METRO Group into one of the world's leading retail companies."
"At the same time, he developed the company into an innovation driver for the entire international retail industry. The METRO Group has thus laid excellent foundations for its further development in the coming years.“
METRO Group is one of the most important international retailing companies. In 2006 the group reached sales of about € 60 billion. The company has a headcount of some 270,000 employees and operates about 2,400 outlets in 30 countries.
