This strong contrast in temperatures provided the battleground for very strong storms in the Plains, Midwest, and Southeast. Mid to late week, a widespread outbreak of severe weather occurred across this large area. Over a 3-day period, nearly 600 severe weather reports were reported across 11 U.S. states. Damaging winds, hail, and some tornadoes were reported and produced localized flooding and power outages.

Consumer Impact in the East/Mid-Western North America: It was yet another week of sluggish demand for all manner of seasonal products, setting up a strong pent-up demand environment. The aftermath of severe storms in the Plains and Midwest ensured a strong run on emergency supplies.

Consumer Impact in the Western Portions of North America: It was a good week for fall demand as temperatures remained cooler than typical in most locations. Periods of rain and snow helped to amplify seasonal apparel sales.
