On October 18, HANESBRAND (Nanjing) Texitile Ltd. Officially commenced the construction in Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone. This is the textile production base established by the world's leading textile company U.S. HANESBRAND INC (HbI) in Asia. Known as 'The Greatest in Asia', the first phase of the project alone is expected to attract an investment of US $98 million.
As the world's largest textile and garment enterprise, U.S. Hanesbrand Inc ranks among the world's top 500 and now lists on New York Stock Exchange, with total assets exceeding $3.4 billion. Company has a century-old history, headquartered in North Carolina, its business covers over 200 countries and has 50,000-plus employees.
This latest project, with total area of 320,000 square meters and expected annual output of 41,000 tons high-grade fabrics, will become the biggest production base of HANESBRAND Group in Asia.
In future, the fabric production from this base will be used to make men's and women's underwear. Its additional output will meet the growing market demand from China, India and other Asian countries.
Before 2010, the outsourcing products of some countries will be transferred to this base. New plants are expected to start production before the end of next year, its annual output value, after reaching the design capacity, will be over $150 million.
Mr Gerald Evans, COO of HANESBRAND Group said, as a leader of global lingerie industry, the completion of this project by U.S. HANESBRAND Group will fill up the gap of high-grade underwear fabrics in Nanjing and Jiangsu. At a higher level, it is the extension and consolidation of industry chain, as well as promotes textile industrial upgrading and structural adjustment in the two regions.
