“What we achieved until was only possible through the great efforts and outstanding performance of our employees”, stated Thomas Hübner.
The new store in Novosibirsk is the first location of METRO Cash & Carry in Siberia. The opening – more than 3,000 kilometers away from Moscow – represents a major challenge in terms of logistics. METRO Cash & Carry is a pioneer in this region and supports the establishment of efficient transport and retails structures.
The trucks, for example, have to be equipped with the latest air conditioning systems to cool the food in summer and “heat” it during the glacial winter months. This is the only way to ensure that the professional customers will always find high-quality products on the shelves.
More than 25,000 articles from the food and nonfood assortments will be available in the new METRO Cash & Carry store with a selling space of nearly 7,500 sqm.
If all preconditions are fulfilled, METRO Cash & Carry will soon open more locations in Siberia: the company is planning further wholesale stores both in Omsk and also in Krasnojarsk. Novosibirsk – the third largest city in the Russian Federation – will take the function of a regional center and play a pioneering role in the opening up of the entire region.
METRO Cash & Carry is present in 28 countries with around 600 self-service wholesale centers. With more than 100,000 employees worldwide, the company achieved sales of around € 30 billion in 2006.
METRO Cash & Carry is a sales division of the METRO Group, one of the most important international retailing and trading companies worldwide. In 2006, the group reached sales of about € 60 billion.
The company has a headcount of some 270,000 employees and operates more than 2,400 outlets in 30 countries. The operating business is performed by the sales brands which operate independently in the market: Metro/Makro Cash & Carry, Real hypermarkets and Extra supermarkets, Media Markt and Saturn – market leader in consumer electronics centers in Europe, and Galeria Kaufhof department stores.
