Indo-German push to successful conclusion of WTO talks urged

In his address, Mr. Rajgopal Sharma, Director, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, called for resolving issues such as phytosanitary and technical barriers among other non-tariff barriers and, easier cross border movement of people to facilitate higher trade.

Listing the areas of opportunity for German investments, Mr. Sharma said India should tap German expertise in advanced technology, energy, infrastructure development and vocational training. He also stated that there would be more outsourcing of manufacturing and design process from Germany to India.

Mr. Sharma said India's awakened spirit of adventure for trade, and business in general, coupled with Germany's export-oriented economy implies that the two economies become more complimentary to each other.

Also, India's strength in science and technology and Germany's strength in innovation can further deepen relationship between the two countries.

Mr. Satish K Kaura, Chairman, CII Manufacturing Council and, Chairman & Managing Director, Samtel Color Ltd said he hoped to see Indo-German trade grow manifold from the existing levels, in the next couple of years.

He said the German Chancellor's visit would act as an impetus to further strengthen Indo-German ties. He hoped that the German expertise and experience in the SME sector, especially in electronic equipment could be used to India's benefit.
