German SMEs to set up common standards for Indian SMEs

The Indo – German trade target of 10 billion Euros set for 2010 has already been achieved, announced Mr Kamal Nath, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Indian industry should focus on bigger targets with a thrust on development of SMEs of both the countries.

There is a great convergence in WTO negotiations and results can be achieved in the next two months, said the Minister. Doha rounds can be successful if the sensitivities of all countries are considered.

He suggested that MSMEs of Germany should have a greater engagement with India and more business delegates from German SMEs should visit India to explore business opportunities.

Dr. Hambrecht, President, APA said that India and Germany should develop a strategic partnership agreement and explore new avenues of business.

German companies advocate an open market for flow of FDI and a rapid conclusion of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) which can enhance the Indo – German relationship.

Mr. Habil Khorakiwala, President, FICCI while moderating the session appreciated the efforts of Dr Angela Merkel for strengthening the Indo-German relationship and providing a global outlook.

India looks forward to German contribution in the area of clean energy, said Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, President, CII. A greater German presence in the area of technology and in providing skills to the large manpower available in India will contribute to a stronger bond between the two countries.

Germany can collaborate with the Indian transport sector to reap the benefits of the open market policy of India, said Mr. Mittal. India is deeply committed to be a knowledge based society and German technology can support the growth initiatives by collaborating with Indian SMEs, he added.
