Addressing the FICCI and Ministry of Textiles Joint Conference on 'Indian Textiles Industry: Strategies for Growth and Competitiveness', Shri A K Singh, Secretary, Textiles said that the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) has been restructured and will go for the Cabinet approval tomorrow subsequent to which it will be implemented.
Shri Singh also said that the skill-development scheme of Ministry of Textiles i.e. NATIJA ( Neighborhood Apparel & Textiles Training Institutes for Job Assurance) has got the approval of Planning Commission and will be implemented shortly.
Shri Singh further said that the Government has decided to continue and allocate sufficient funds for the two major flagship schemes of the Ministry, namely, Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) and the Scheme for Integrated Technology Park (SITP) during the Eleventh Five Year Plan.
The Ministry of Textiles has prepared a Manpower Development Scheme, called “Neighbourhood Apparel & Textiles Training Institutes for Job Assurance (NATIJA)” for establishing a network of employment-linked training facilities in basic garment manufacturing technology.
The scheme is designed to meet the projected demand of 4 million trained workers required in the garment industry over the next 4-5 years. The Scheme is to be operated at regional and sub-regional level across the country on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Skilled manpower support generated from the Training Scheme would help the garment industry to enhance its efficiency, productively and quality. At the same time, the training of local area inhabitants in basic garment manufacturing skills would stimulate local employment.
