According to some retailers, sales during the crucial tourism season have been "weaker" during July and August as compared to the same months last year. Italian consumer confidence also fell during August, according to the research institute ISAE.
Domestic textile and apparel prices (all fibres) at production level continued to show little upward movement as low-priced imports continue their penetration into low and middle value segments.
Wool import data for April showed a moderate decline year-on-year. Preliminary data shows imports continuing to trend downwards for May and June. Wool top imports accounted for much of the downturn during the four months to April.
