Mackintosh already has flagship stores in London and Tokyo but is planning to expand their overseas presence with plans for new stores in New York and Moscow and other key cities in Europe and Asia over the next three to five years.

Daniel Dunko, Managing Director of Mackintosh, says:
“Increasing our retail presence is a vital part of our strategy to build a global brand and increase awareness of our expanding product range over the coming years.

Our stores in London and Tokyo have proven to be highly successful and we want to build on this to expand into new overseas markets.”

The 2007 Scottish Textiles Industry Survey also highlighted that there was a growing optimism with the sector as it continued to stabilise.

Other findings included:
• 40% of companies increased turnover over the past year while a further 32% of companies indicated turnover remained the same
• 90% of companies are Scottish-owned while the majority of those that are foreign-owned continue to have their decision makers based in Scotland
• 40% of companies export overseas with the biggest export markets for Scottish textiles being the USA, France, Germany, Italy and Japan
• A third of companies made new capital investments over the past year
• Almost half of all companies reported increasing levels of productivity, leading to increased profit margins

James Sugden, Managing Director of Johnstons Cashmere and Chairman of the Scottish Textiles Industry Association, says: “This year's survey shows some very promising trends and there is a growing optimism within the wider textiles community.

“However, we still need to strive to increase levels of productivity, innovation and collaboration as well as continue to raise the international profile of Scottish Textiles as a whole.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Scottish Textiles team at Scottish Enterprise to ensure that Scotland remains at the forefront of the global textiles sector.
