Exports to Netherlands goes up 87.23% in this 5-year

Shri Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, during his bilateral talks with the visiting Dutch Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Frank Heemskerk, here has observed that there is great potential for further intensification of trade and investment relations between India and Netherlands.

He expressed satisfaction that the bilateral trade between the two countries has increased by 22.3% in 2006 while the total trade between India and the Netherlands in the past five years (2002-2006) has almost doubled (97.79% growth).

Exports from India to the Netherlands in these five years have increased by 87.23% while Dutch exports to India increased by 11.16%.

“We are happy that the Dutch delegation consists of both Small and Medium Enterprises and has identified focus areas such as biotechnology, agro-industry, medical sector, infrastructure and logistics, R&D etc.

The focussed approach will help to identify concrete collaborations in the light of vast potential that exists in these areas”, Shri Kamal Nath said and added that the Netherlands, is among India's top ten trading partners and in terms of investments.

On Indo-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), both the sides observed that common areas have been identified and further discussions would be held in the 3rd round, which is slated to be in December, 2007.

Discussions have also been held in other areas to be covered in the agreement, viz, SPS and TBT measures, intellectual property rights and Geographical Indications, competition policy, government procurement, dispute settlement etc. Senior officials from both India and the Netherlands participated in the meeting.
