Nabil Chogle, a former student at SATRA's cleaning technology centre, has called upon the expertise of his course tutor, Peter Beer, to help him set up his own dry-cleaning business in Kuwait.
Peter spent two weeks in Kuwait training Nabil's staff in the fundamentals of dry-cleaning practice, finishing and stain removal – the same courses that Nabil attended himself two years ago!
After Nabil completed his SATRA course in 2005, he went to work for a well-known dry-cleaning chain in the UK. A year later he returned to SATRA to sit his Guild of Cleaners and Launderers examinations. He has spent the last year building a dry-cleaning facility “like no other”.
Containing two floors, each measuring approximately 800 square feet, the Two Hours clothing care shop provides a laundry and dry-cleaning service for traditional Middle-Eastern wear such as disdashers, ghutras and abayas and will specialise in designer clothing, in particular items containing silk, beading and sequins.
The shop will also offer a pillow renovation service. Nabil hopes that this outlet will be the first of many he will open in Kuwait.
Peter said of his involvement: “This project is a trainers' dream. To be involved at every stage of developing this business with every member of staff means a lot.”
Peter is due to spend five more weeks at the shop in January 2008 to teach the staff about different cleaning applications for different materials.
