Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) is making waves in Asia, announcing various projects across the region in recent weeks.
AWI presented its range for the first time at the 6th Annual China (Dalang) International Woollen Knitwear Fair in October. The fair is a famous trading expo for woollen knitwear, knitting machinery, computer design systems, yarn, and fibre and woollen knitwear accessories.
“AWI uses the event as a platform to educate the textile manufacturers in the Guangdong province about the benefits of the Australian Merino wool fibre, as well as to present AWI's resource of knowledge, product development and marketing concepts,” said AWI Global Product Development Manager, Jimmy Jackson.
Further south in Vietnam, AWI has formed strategic partnerships with a number of leading mills and garment makers with the aim of developing new fabrics and active/sportswear using Australian Merino wool.
“Merino wool is rapidly gaining a reputation as the wonder fibre of the sports and performance textile market and these partnerships have enabled us to bring new ideas and training to manufacturers supplying some of the biggest sports companies in the world," said Mark Brooks, AWI's global sports/active wear manager.
One of the key companies in the partnerships is Nam Liong, a key manufacturing partner of Nike and Adidas. AWI and Nam Liong are working towards creating circular knitted Merino blended fabrics for the sports industry.
AWI has also recently launched a $1.4million marketing program involving five major Japanese retailers.
