The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), after a successful year of 2007, has unfolded plans to increase its export turnover in 2008 by reaching up to US $9.5 billion.
So far 2007, the country exported $7.05 billion, representing a year–on–year growth of 32 percent.
According to Le Quoc An, President of VITAS, after one year as members of the WTO, the industry can boast of achieving better-than-expected export revenue of $7.8 billion. This was around $300 million higher than earlier forecast, up 31 percent against last year.
According to the sketched plan, Vietnam will focus on raising raw materials and accessories, building up an environmental friendly culture and developing appropriate measures to avoid trade barriers.
