Intermediate goods production gain in euro area

In October 2007 compared with September 2007, the industrial producer price index rose by 0.6% in the euro area (EA13), and by 0.9% in the EU27. In September3, prices increased by 0.4% and 0.5% respectively.

In October 2007 compared with October 2006, industrial producer prices gained 3.3% in the euro area and 3.5% in the EU27. These figures come from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities.

Monthly changes:
In October 2007, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector rose by 0.4% in both the euro area and the EU27. Prices in the energy sector increased by 1.7% and 2.8% respectively.

Non-durable consumer goods gained 0.6% in both zones. Intermediate goods rose by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU27. In both zones, capital goods and durable consumer goods increased by 0.1%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Denmark (+4.9%), Lithuania (+2.5%) and the United Kingdom (+2.2%), and the lowest in Luxembourg, Portugal and Slovakia (all +0.3%).

Annual changes:
In October 2007, compared with October 2006, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 3.1% in the euro area and by 3.3% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by 4.0% and 4.6% respectively.

Intermediate goods gained 4.0% in the euro area and 4.2% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 3.5% and3.6% respectively. In both zones, durable consumer goods gained 1.8% and capital goods 1.5%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Lithuania (+12.7%), Bulgaria (+11.3%) and the Netherlands (+6.9%), and the lowest in Germany and Finland (both +1.7%) and Slovakia (+1.8%).
