The cotton quotations in New York followed the general trend of the raw materials and pointed clearly downwards in the week under report and stimulated new demand by the industry. It became obvious that some spinning mills were urgently requiring supply for near dates still in this year.
Central Asian sorts were in main focus, while contracts in West African cottons could only be realised in lower volume, also because of their limited availability.
In the Upland range, turnovers were registered in Central Asian sorts for prompt, further in the 4th quarter 2007 and in the 1st and 2nd quarter 2008; West African descriptions prompt ex warehouse Bremen, and for dates in the 1st and 2nd quarter 2008; Zimbabwe cotton for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2008; Greek descriptions for prompt loading in the for the 1st quarter 2008.
There were no sales figures reported for ELS/LS cottons.
