In October 2007, compared to September 2007, the volume of retail trade1 fell by 0.7% in the euro area (EA13) and by 0.4% in the EU27. In September3 retail trade increased by 0.2% and 0.3% respectively.
In October 2007, compared with October 2006, the retail sales index gained 0.2% in the euro area and 1.9% in the EU27.
Monthly changes In October 2007, the non food sector decreased by 1.1% and 0.7% respectively. Among the Member States for which data are available, total retail trade fell in fourteen, remained unchanged in the United Kingdom and rose only in Poland (+1.4%) and Slovakia (+0.3%). The highest decreases were observed in Germany (-3.3%), Denmark (-3.0%), Belgium (-2.2%) and Estonia (-2.1%).
Annual changes In October 2007, the non food sector increased by 0.1% and 2.5% respectively. Among the Member States for which data are available, total retail trade rose in fourteen Member States and fell only in Germany (-3.4%), Belgium (-1.4%) and Denmark (-0.8%). The largest increases were observed in Poland (+13.3%), Lithuania (+11.4%), Latvia (+9.1%) and Slovenia (+6.7%).
