Korea's Soodo Dyeing and Knitting Co. has taken delivery of two Thies Luft-roto plus dyeing units, following successful trials with two units installed in 2006.
Both new models, a 540 kg capacity three tube and 720 kg capacity four tube unit, were ordered through local dealer, Korea Illies Engineering Co., to complete a 100% Thies-equipped dyehouse; featuring eight soft-TRD DS XL and two Luft-roto plus – 180 kg and 360 kg capacities – plus an MPS-L chemical dosing system, an MPS-D dyestuff dissolving system and a complete Thies dyehouse control system, OrgaTEX.
The new units meet today's environmental requirements saving substantial quantities of water and increasing production to 20 t/day.
The Thies installation is the culmination of a modernisation programme started in the 1990's by Mr Young K Lim. Going 'step by step' initially with small scale replacements, the company was to standardise on a single Taiwanese dyeing range in 1995.
Around the same time Soodo began installing European finishing machines. “With such a modern operation we began to recognise weaknesses in our system and the demand for improved dyeing machines,” said Mr Lim.
Initially opting for three Thies soft-TRD DS XL to compare the performance against the company's 10 Taiwanese units, the decision was made to install a total of eight Thies units with a mix of capacities to replace the 10 units.
Soodo was founded by today's President's father Mr. Byung-Nam Lim in 1945 producing socks. Continuing throughout the Korean War, production was to continue for a further four years when, unable to compete with nylon sock producers, it changed to knitted underwear using cotton yarns.
