Garments prices cheaper in Dec

As in December 2006, in December 2007 too monthly inflation in Slovenia stood at 0.4%. However, there is a large difference in annual inflation as last year it was 2.8% and this year as much as 5.6%.

In December service prices were on average 0.8% higher while goods prices increased by 0.2%. Among goods, non-durable goods prices grew by 0.6%, while the prices of semi-durable and durable goods decreased by 1% and 0.1%, respectively. Among services, the prices of recreational and sport services jumped the most (by 4.6%).

In December cheaper clothing and footwear:
As a month before, In December lower prices were recorded only in two groups: clothing and footwear (on average by 1.9%) and transport (by 0.1%).

Due to the first pre-holiday discounts, in the group clothing and footwear the prices of clothing materials, and shoes and other footwear fell on average by 3.7%, while garments were 1.5% cheaper.

Clothing and footwear discounts in December pushed the inflation rate down by 0.2 of a percentage point.

Harmonised indices of consumer prices:
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, prices in December also went up by 0.4%. The annual price growth was 5.7% (last year only 3%), while the 12-month average price growth was 3.8% (last year only 2.5%).

In December 2007 goods prices increased by 0.8%, while service prices went up by 0.2%. As regards goods, non-durable goods prices grew by 0.5% and semi-durable goods prices by 1.1%, while durable goods prices remained the same. Compared to December 2006, goods prices went up by 5.9% and service prices by 5.3%.
