Manufacturing sector production higher in Dec

On the basis of provisional figures for December of last year it is estimated that manufacturing production in 2007 was 7.4% higher than in the previous year. Turnover is provisionally estimated to have risen by 6.3% in the same period (see Table 6).

Annual production in the “Modern” Sector (i.e. the high-technology and chemical sectors) increased by over 9% while production in the “Traditional” Sector grew by just 2.5%.

Manufacturing sector production in December 2007 was 0.8% higher than in December 2006. Turnover in the manufacturing sector was 3.8% lower in December 2007 than in December 2006.

The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production for manufacturing industries for the three-month period October to December 2007 was 2.4% lower than in the preceding three-month period. In the same three month period, turnover was down 2.4% on a seasonally adjusted basis.
