The China International Silk Fair 2005 will begin from October 23, 2005, announced Assistant Minister Huang Hai at a press conference held in Beijing recently.
He said that the Ministry of Commerce and Hangzhou Municipal Government will organise the fair which will run through Oct 23, 2005.
Noting that the Chinese silk industry faced trouble during 1990's, however, a five-year adjustment, turned this loss making industry to draw profits from 1999 and has sustaine growth since the Xth Five Years Plan.
He said National Bureau of Statistics recorded over 2300 silk enterprises, while total output of silk industry was US $70.6 billion in January-July period, up 19.1 percent with profit rising at US $1.6 billion, up by 16 percent; total volume of silk was 69.7 thousand tons, up by 23.3 percent, silk products were 4.3 billion meters, up by 5.3 percent.
Also while the export price and volume of silk increased, Huang said that Customs statistics placed pure silk product export at US $1.755 billion, which was up 22.1 percent.
Turning to China International Silk Fair 2005, he said it aimed at promoting and enhancing foreign and domestic exchange and cooperation, and expanding silk market.
Stressing on the importance of the fair, he said Commerce Ministry would make it among the top 6 fairs sponsored by MOFCOM.
