Inflation rates go up in February

The details about CPI, SPI and WPI for the month of February, 2008 are given below:

Consumer Price Index (CPI):
The Consumer Price Index during the month of February, 2008 increased by 0.49% over January, 2008 and increased by 11.25% over corresponding month of last year.

The main commodities, which showed an increase in their prices during February 2008 over January, 2008 are as under:
• Apparel, textile & footwear: Woolen readymade garments (2.61%).

• Household, furniture & equipments etc: furniture readymade (1.10%).

• Cleaning, laundry & personal appearance: jewellery (5.31%).

Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI): During four weeks of February, 2008, Sensitive Price Indicator decreased at an average of 1.33% over January, 2008.

Wholesale Price Index (WPI): The wholesale price index during February, 2008 increased by 1.24% over January, 2008 it increased by 16.36% over the corresponding month of last year.

The main commodities which showed an increase in their prices in February 2008 over January 2008 are as under:
• Raw materials: cotton seed (1.19%) and skins (1.16%).

• Manufactures: Fertilizers (14.66%), chemicals (2.94%), silk & rayon textiles (2.49%) and blended yarn (1.13%).

The main commodities which showed a decrease in their prices in February 2008 over January 2008 are as under:
• Raw materials: Cotton (1.14%).
