Uttar Pradesh has been an important source of various handicraft and handloom products. Bhadohi, the main centre initially cultivated by the HHEC, has now become the major hub for the export of carpets and the export performance during 2003-04 was reported to be the tune of 87.65% of the total carpet exports. The Corporation helped carpet weavers in getting a fair deal for their skills. Initially, the role of middlemen in this trade was very important which was gradually reduced by intervention of HHEC.
Moradabad is now exporting brass items earning almost Rs. 800 crore revenue and the HHEC was initially the main promoter of these items. The percentage share of Moradabad in the export of brass items is 29.64%, the Minister said.
The Madras Bleeding Check was also developed by HHEC in the year 1990, which became very popular in foreign countries. Its export is quite substantial now.
HHEC was exporting readymade garments manufactured in NOIDA Parisar, which was earlier situated in 4 sheds. In the year 1992, accidental fire destroyed the factory affecting the export of garments. Foreign buyers have been stressing upon the Corporation to have a state-of-the-art garment factory if they were to continue garment exports.
That is how this NOIDA Parisar has come up. This Parisar would be a landmark not only in NOIDA but also for Delhi and its neighbouring areas. This factory will be equipped with latest computer designing technology. It will also have a very modern showroom where handicrafts and handlooms made by the craftsmen from all over the country would be displayed, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela added.
There are other places nearby NOIDA such as Khurja, Moradabad, Aligarh, Pilkhua, Khekra, Nowgaon from where goods produced by the weavers and crafts persons are exported. These areas will be benefitted by the HHEC having its office in NOIDA, which will result in increased export earnings from these places, said the Minister.
