Textech 2005, third international exposition on textile technology seeking to equip domestic manufacturers to meet global competition in the textile sector has been planned by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at Ludhiana during November 18-21, 2005.
A roadshow was held here on Thursday to invite participants from Gujarat.
Manish Bagrodia, the chairman of Textech 2005, said that the challenge for Indian manufacturers was getting and using the right technology if global competition was to be met effectively.
He said that Chinese goods did not turn out to be as poor in quality as was being thought of in the beginning and therefore, things would have to be taken seriously.
“India is expected to gain in the post quota scenario based on its abundant workforce and recent investments in the textile area...close relationship between textile or material vendors and sewing companies will be essential to meet retailers' requirements,” he said.
He said that the international event, where Union Textile Minister Shankerinsh Vaghela was expected as a chief guest, would attract around 200 participants and 30,000 visitors to witness live demonstration of machinery and equipment.
Nayan Parikh, member of the Government of India's Textile Committee, said that while opportunities were opening up in the globally integrated scenario, new challenges in the form of credible threat of imports could not be ignored as well.
