Research and development organization The Australian wool industry (AWI) has a strong, long-term future, with much opportunity to further increase on-farm productivity and global demand for Australian Merino wool.
That's the message from Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) Chairman Ian McLachlan in the company's Annual Report, which is being sent this week to shareholders with a Notice of Meeting and voting papers for the Annual General Meeting.
He informed that Innovation is AWI's business and ongoing investment in it is fundamental to the future of the Australian wool industry. They have to seize and vigorously pursue these opportunities and this is what AWI is doing.
Mr McLachlan said AWI focused on the things that could be influenced - building on-farm productivity and increasing global demand for Australian Merino wool.
In the past year, significant advances have been made in new shearing technology, mulesing alternatives and sheep genetics, to name just a few.
On top of that, AWI has worked hard to build relationships with designers, retailers and manufacturers around the globe to increase demand for Australian Merino wool.
These are the people who make the decisions about the fibre used in apparel, and they are in the perfect position to help us highlight the performance attributes customers are looking for, such as softness and easy care.
There is significant potential to increase sales through this approach, and we now have developed successful alliances in China and the US. Our next step is into Europe.
