BASF to reduce its caprolactam production

Since the end of September, BASF has reduced its worldwide production of caprolactam to about 65 percent. The reason for this measure is the high cost of raw materials and energy as well as the unsatisfactory market demand.

This decision involves production at the sites in Freeport, Texas; Antwerp, Belgium; and Ludwigshafen, Germany. This will not affect the number of employees at those locations.

Caprolactam is used for the manufacture of the plastic polyamide 6.

BASF is the world's leading chemical company. Its portfolio ranges from oil and gas to chemicals, plastics, performance products, agricultural products and fine chemicals. As a reliable partner BASF helps its customers in virtually all industries to be more successful.
