Transitional review of China

The US, the EC and Japan reiterated concerns about China's measures on trade in goods, in particular about export restrictions on certain raw materials. They also complained that China had not responded adequately to many of the questions they had submitted in transitional reviews conducted in the subsidiary bodies of the Goods Council. Switzerland complained about China's export restrictions on sulphur dioxide.

China said environmental concerns were now dominating China's economic polices, and that export restrictions on natural resource products were an effort to improve environmental protection.

At the end of the meeting, the Council considered the annual reports of its subsidiary bodies, and adopted its own annual report for submission to the General Council.
