APTMA to pull shutters of textile mills for 15 days

In order to resolve the prevailing power crisis, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has decided to pull shutters of their textile mills for 15 days, with a hope that Federal as well as Provincial Governments may pay heed to this severe problem.
Speaking to media persons, Anees Khawaja Muhammad, Senior Vice Chairman of APTMA said, “We have no other option except shutting down textile units in prevailing situation when power load-shedding duration had increased to 12 hours and natural gas supply was suspended."
According to Anees Khawaja, more than one million workers would be jobless with the closure of 200 textile mills and over 5 million people would be affected indirectly.
Previously APTMA has urged the SSGC to supply 200 mmfcd natural gas on a daily basis to run the textile mills in Sindh but its plea was turned down and in the mean while PEPCO had cut the 600 MW electricity of industrial sector to meet the demand of Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation (KESC).
The APTMA Chairman says that current circumstances have compelled them to take this harsh decision and they hope that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani pay proper attention to his serious situation and resolve their problems on top-priority basis.
