At the request of the Faculty for Social and Natural Sciences (Faculty III) and a decision by the academic senate of 6 May 2009, the Freiburg University of Education has appointed to professorships two textile and hygiene specialists from the Hohenstein Institute.

At a ceremony to be held on 10 July 2009 at Schloss Hohenstein in Boennigheim, the Chancellor of the Freiburg University of Education, Professor (Dr.) Ulrich Druwe, will present the appointments to Professor (Dr.) Stefan Mecheels (honorary professorship) and to the Head of the Institute for Hygiene and Biotechnology at the Hohenstein Institute, Dirk Hoefer, MD (extraordinary professorship).

The Hohenstein Institute offer manufacturers, retailers, service providers and consumers “competence from one single source”, covering a wide range of distinct, but closely linked fields of work. The result of this interdisciplinary approach is the successful cooperation with other research institutes from sectors such as medicine, electronics or microsystem technology. These networks open up totally new areas of application for textile products and thus provide the Hohenstein Institute' clients with additional markets and opportunities for the future.
