This strategy has enabled Autoliv to remain competitive, despite the pricing pressure in the automotive industry, and to increase its sales by nearly 50% since 2000, thereby creating 7,500 new jobs globally, an increase of 23%.
Sweden based seat belt maker Autoliv AB pioneered seat belt technology in 1956, while Morton ASP had been a leader in airbag development and was involved in the launch in 1980 of the first airbag system that became a commercial success. In 1992, Autoliv began manufacturing textile cushions for driver airbags using its new one-piece-weaving (OPW) technology. This patented technology has turned out to be instrumental for the Inflatable Curtain, which was introduced in 1998.
