Handicraft exports experience plunge

As per the recent data of the last four months, handicraft export of Nepal to US witnessed a fall of 12.06 percent, of which, textile products' export dropped down by 18.28 percent and that of non-textile products by 1.34 percent, according to the statistics of Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN).

However, felt products experienced growth in export by 37.14 percent and the export of glass products also increased by 165.34 percent. While, items such as silver jewellery, metal craft, ceramic products, bone and horn products, stonecraft, and miscellaneous goods saw trivial increment of 7.06 per cent, 1.58 per cent, 4.60 per cent, 9.85 per cent, 9.82 per cent and 1.75 per cent, respectively.

Contribution of textile products was 58.76 percent of overall exports from the handicrafts sector. Four months comparative data reveals that the total export of Nepali handicraft products was valued at Rs. 1.047 billion.
