Scant supply for the near term - Bremen Cotton

Cotton available for the short term was still of great interest in the past week. However, there existed also brisk demand for later dates. Indeed, the market was almost empty. Prices and quotations had further gone up, if obtainable at all. Thus, not many new contracts could be closed. For merchants, the replacement in the countries of origin became hardly possible on the prevailing basis. Also fine-/extra fine cottons were in strong demand but the turnovers remained limited due to the absence of offers.

In the medium staple range sales were registered for odd-lots of Central Asian origin for prompt and further in the 3rd quarter 2010; Greek cotton from the old crop for prompt and from the new crop for the 4th quarter 2010; Syrian types for the 3rd quarter 2010, as well as Brazil cotton for the 4th quarter 2010.

In the extra fine range was traded Egyptian GIZA 70 for prompt.
