Textile future hinges on custom & excise duty cuts, FICCI

FICCI stated that the industry chamber said suitable amendments must be made in the law to keep drawing samples and testing outside the purview of the term “manufacture” and exempt it from the levy of excise duty. This would avoid the instances of assessees being unduly harassed, which has been the case due to issuance of show cause notices on quantity of samples drawn.
FICCI also sought a specified time limit of 30 days from the date of claim for rate fixation and refunds/rebates of duty/Cenvat and a post facto audit of such claims.
