"We view this innovation on the part of the international OEKO-TEX Association as very positive. This type of personal contact ensures a much better exchange of information, while the company tour enables auditors to better familiarise themselves with the company and processes", confirms V. FRAAS managing director Andreas Schmidt, and adds:

"The entire audit was very positive. It highlighted a lot of new interesting issues and ideas for V. FRAAS, which we were not very familiar with or not aware of. It was a very interesting exchange, which took place in a pleasant atmosphere. In addition, current communication and the implementation of jointly developed objectives are also going very well."

Schmidt then goes on to explain the importance of OEKO-TEX and the strong trend towards human-ecologically certified textiles: "Demand is growing worldwide. Conscious consumers pay attention to immaculate textiles that have been tested for harmful substances. We view these consumers as anything but a niche target group. We think that fashion and ecology can be very compatible and that this approach has great potential - in other words, OEKO-TEX as a competitive advantage." This statement is impressively backed up by current sales figures. OEKO-TEX textiles make up approximately 30 percent of V. FRAAS total sales. This is equivalent to around 2.8 million articles per year.

The onsite visit at V. FRAAS proves that the objectives set by OEKO-TEX with the implementation of company visits are fully confirmed in practice and have been very well received by the companies. As part of the visits, auditors are able to provide a lot of direct assistance and provide concrete advice with respect to the following:

• implementation of harmful substance specifications
• company quality assurance
• coordination of technical conditions for certification
• selection of article groups regarding cost/benefits/requirements
• advertising options with regard to the Oeko-Tex label
