Speaking from his experience, in order that trade from India to Japan should blossom, he was of the opinion that, India has always been projected as a low-cost producer, but the Japanese do not always look for low-costs. Rather they look for high value-addition textile products. India has shown promise in churning out such products and this has to be promoted with the Japanese textile and clothing importers, he said.

Speaking about the Japan-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) he informed, "Japan-India Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was signed recently, during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Japan. The Japanese government has formed special groups to work on smoothening out the gray areas. The full implementation will take time, but we hope that the EPA in the textile and apparel sector should be implemented in early 2011".
