ASSOCHAM releases textiles, leather sector study findings

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), released the study of the key sectors in the Manufacturing areas such as Wood and Wood Products, Paper, Beverages, Textiles, Tobacco, Non-Metallic Minerals, Basic Metal & Alloy Industries.

Metal Products and Transport Equipment have witnessed a negative growth, ranging from –5.22 percent to –0.15 percent in Capacity Utilisation during 2005 against their capacities in 2004.

The Paper released by ASSOCHAM President, Anil K. Agarwal says that the sectors which witnessed increased capacity utilisation during 2004-05 as compared to 2003-04 include leather and leather & fur products, posting a huge 6.28 percent increase in capacity utilization from 79.6 in 2003-04 to 84.6 in 2004-05.

Jute & other vegetable fibre textiles experienced 2.70 percent rise in capacity utilization from 81.6 in 2003-04 to 83.8 in 2004-05.

Machinery & equipment posted a 1.88 percent increase in 2004-05 with capacity utilization at 76.0 over 74.6 of the previous fiscal.

Wool, silk & manmade fibre textiles lodged a moderate increase of 1.72 percent in capacity utilization from 87.1 in 2003-04 to 88.6 in 2004-05.

Basic chemicals & chemical products registered an increase of 1.60 percent in capacity utilization from 81.0 in 2003-04 to 82.3 in 2004-05.
