Textile products output up in Oct

The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of October 2005 was released by the Central Statistical Organisation of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

- 1.2 percent Higher Than September 2005

- Over All Growth in the General Index 8.4 percent

- Manufacturing Records Highest 9.6 percent Growth

- Mining Registers 1.8 percent Negative Growth

The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of October 2005 stand at 149.7, 234.4, and 193.1 respectively, with the corresponding growths of (-)1.8 percent, 9.6 percent and 7.4 percent as compared to October 2004.

The cumulative growth during April-October, 2005-06 over the corresponding period of 2004-05 in the three sectors have been 0.7 percent, 9.6 percent and 5.2 percent respectively, with the overall growth in the General Index being 8.4 percent

The industry group 'Other Manufacturing Industries' has shown the highest growth of 39.2 percent, followed by 21.6 percent in 'Beverages, Tobacco and Related Products'.

16 percent growth in 'Textile Products (including Wearing Apparel)' as well as in 'Basic Metal and Alloy Industries'.

On the other hand, the industry group 'Food products' have shown a negative growth of 7.7 percent followed by a decline of 5.7 percent in 'Wool, Silk and Man Made Fibre Textile' and 5.2 percent in 'Wood and Wood Product; Furniture and Fixtures'.

Alongwith the Quick Estimates of IIP for October 2005, the indices for September 2005 have undergone the first revision and those for July 2005, the second (final) revision in the light of the updated data received from the source agencies.
