Nishit Sangomla, currently deputy director, will take over as director at Somaiya Kala Vidya (SKV) from his predecessor Judy Frater. After 14 years of building the design education programme, Frater would be retiring from directorship of SKV in May 2020. SKV, a division of KJ Somaiya Gujarat Trust, is an institution for traditional artisans of Kutch, India.

Sangomla is an experienced consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit organisation management industry. He is deeply interested in education for artisans and has worked with rural artisans at Barefoot college in Tilonia Rajasthan, Himalayan Blooms in Uttarakhand, and Naropa fellowship in Ladakh.

Frater has worked for years with Kutch artisans. She received an Ashoka fellowship in 2003 to establish Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya, the first design school for artisans. In 2009, she received the Sir Misha Black Medal for distinguished service to design education.

Combining over fifty years' experience of Somaiya Vidyavihar University with fourteen years of design education for artisans, SKV offers sustained, coherent programmes in design and business to provide effective, relevant and practical education.
