  • North India's cotton yarn prices remained stable amid weak domestic demand and uncertainty around a potential India–US trade agreement.
  • Both Delhi and Ludhiana markets saw little movement, while Panipat's recycled yarn segment also stabilised.
  • Traders anticipate a boost if a bilateral deal is finalised.
  • Meanwhile, cotton prices rose marginally despite sluggish demand.
Cotton yarn prices in north India remained steady amid uncertainty over garment export orders from the US. The intermediate product was traded at previous levels in both Delhi and Ludhiana. A market expert noted that a potential bilateral trade agreement between India and the US could encourage foreign buyers to place orders. However, the proposed agreement is still up in the air. Post-summer, domestic garment manufacturing demand has slowed, but the upcoming festive season remains a silver lining for the market.

The Ludhiana market did not witness any movement in cotton yarn prices. A trader from Ludhiana told Fibre2Fashion, “Cotton yarn demand is normal but not encouraging. Mills are also facing sluggish export orders to traditional markets. Local demand for garment manufacturing has weakened after the summer season.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹255-265 (~$2.99-3.10) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹245-255 (~$2.87-2.99) per kg and ₹250-260 (~$2.93-3.05) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹235-240 (~$2.75-2.81) per kg today, according to trade sources.

The Delhi market also experienced sluggish demand from the consumer industry. Fabric manufacturers have not ramped up production ahead of the festive season. Market sources said participants are keenly awaiting clarity on US tariffs after July 2025. If the India–US bilateral trade deal is finalised in the coming days, it could improve garment export prospects to the US and boost confidence across the entire textile value chain. Currently, there is no clear and confirmed indication of escaping reciprocal tariffs.

In Delhi, 30 count combed knitting yarn was traded at ₹255-256 (~$2.99-3.00) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹280-281 (~$3.28-3.29) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹229-231 (~$2.68-2.71) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹254-256 (~$2.98-3.00) per kg today.

The recycled yarn market in Panipat also remained stable in terms of yarn and raw material prices. Following a recent rise in finer recycled PC yarn, demand has slowed as buyers remain uncertain about strong downstream product sales. However, recycled polyester fibre prices eased by ₹1 per kg due to weaker demand, influenced by cheaper crude oil. Mills are facing shortages of rugs and waste textile inputs but are unable to raise recycled PC yarn prices further.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹75-78 (~$0.88-0.91) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹60-65 (~$0.70-0.76) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹101-103 (~$1.18-1.2) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹130-135 (~$1.52-1.57) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹98-101 (~$1.14-1.18) per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹75-79 (~$0.88-0.93) per kg today.

In north India, cotton prices rose by ₹10 per maund (37.2 kg) despite subdued yarn demand. Prices are firming up in Rajasthan due to better quality. Cotton from Haryana remains cheaper than that from Rajasthan and Punjab. Trade sources attributed the price rise to gains in ICE cotton futures. However, private traders and ginners hold limited stock this year. The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is also offering cotton at higher auction prices.

Cotton arrivals in north India have reduced to negligible levels, with total arrivals estimated at just over 200 bales across the region. Stocked cotton is currently being traded. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,750-5,760 (~$67.37–67.49) per maund (37.2 kg); in Haryana, ₹5,600–5,670 (~$65.61–66.44) per maund; and in upper Rajasthan, ₹5,750–5,900 (~$67.37–69.13) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, prices stood at ₹54,500–₹56,000 (~$638.57–656.15) per candy (356 kg).
