OutDoor trade show exhibits functional apparel

Supporting sustainability, functional garments were showcased at OutDoor 2017, a leading exhibition for leisure, sports, travel, and appropriate clothing. The four day exhibition held at Friedrichshafen, Germany, concluded on June 21, 2017. It was an international platform for brands to showcase various sustainable solutions and lightweight designs.

A dozen companies, including several big players, presented perfluorocarbons (PFC)-free membranes outdoor apparel at OutDoor 2017. Sympatex Technologies presented the ultimate functional jacket 4.0. The material basis of the jacket is a 100 per cent recycled laminate from the current Sympatex portfolio. In addition to Sympatex, companies like Marmot, Fjällräven, Haglöfs, Houdini, Jack Wolfskin, Klättermusen, Maier Sports, Mamalila, Pyua and Vaude showcased PFC-free membranes outdoor apparel. Houdini launched its first compostable t-shirt while Röjk and Tierra introduced jackets made from 100 per cent bio-polymers.

The programmme talked about various presented various sustainable alternatives such as usage of renewable raw materials instead of fossil fuels, natural dyeing processes and dyes instead of chemicals, reducing water consumption when dyeing, or during production, plus compostable clothing and closed loop recycling.
