Pakistan’s textile businesses have expanded production capacity to meet robust demand from foreign buyers after receiving export orders for the next six months, according to All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) chairman Adil Bashir, who recently said exports for the sector increased significantly compared to regional competitors.

The textile sector that accounts for more than 60 per cent of the country’s total exports fetched $6 billion from abroad during the first five months of the current fiscal, up by around 5 per cent year on year, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data show.

The government’s decision to keep businesses open is leading to rise in orders diverted from closed economies, while the US-China rift is also diverting orders to Pakistan, according to Pakistani media reports.
