Pakistan's textile exports up 0.86% in Q1 2018

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased marginally by 0.86 per cent in dollar terms in July-September 2018, compared to the same months of the previous year. During the period, Pakistan earned $3.285 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $3.257 billion in first quarter of 2017, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
 
Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 9.80 per cent year-on-year to $710.210 million during the three-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments declined 1.55 per cent to $599.260 million.
 
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $7.048 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 76.21 per cent compared to exports of $29.623 million during the same month of the previous fiscal.
 
Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 2.25 per cent and fetched $313.707 million, as against exports of $320.942 million made during July-September 2017. Exports of cotton fabric, however, increased marginally by 0.09 per cent and were valued at $529.095 million during the first quarter of fiscal 2018-19, while bedwear exports increased by 2.89 per cent to $583.627 million, the data showed.
 
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 5.89 per cent year-on-year to $145.062 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 4.64 per cent to $153.374 million.
 
Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 22.38 per cent year-on-year to $113.937 million during the period under review.
 
In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (RKS)
