Pakistan's textile exports up 1.19% in July-Jan FY19

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 1.19 per cent in dollar terms in first seven months of fiscal 2018-2019, compared to the same months of previous year. During the period, Pakistan earned $7.813 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $7.720 billion in July-January FY18, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 11.35 per cent year-on-year to $1.724 billion during the seven-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 2.26 per cent to $1.516 billion.

Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $14.450 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 73.71 per cent compared to exports of $54.958 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.

Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 14.13 per cent and fetched $634.831 million, as against exports of $739.315 million made during July-January FY18. Exports of cotton fabric decreased marginally by 1.25 per cent and were valued at $1.233 billion during the first seven months of fiscal 2018-19, while bedwear exports increased by 3.75 per cent to $1.354 billion, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 10.12 per cent year-on-year to $330.456 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 5.01 per cent to $364.705 million.

Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 10.64 per cent year-on-year to $308.608 million during the period under review.

In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
