Pakistan's textile exports up 1.38% in July-Feb FY19

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 1.38 per cent in dollar terms in first eight months of fiscal 2018-2019, compared to the same months of previous year. During the period, Pakistan earned $8.901 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $8.780 billion in July-February FY18, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 11.36 per cent year-on-year to $1.939 billion during the eight-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 2.72 per cent to $1.741 billion.

Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $15.284 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 72.49 per cent compared to exports of $55.549 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.

Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 13.53 per cent and fetched $743.405 million, as against exports of $859.716 million made during July-February FY18. Exports of cotton fabric decreased marginally by 1.04 per cent and were valued at $1.410 billion during the first eight months of fiscal 2018-19, while bedwear exports increased by 3.53 per cent to $1.529 billion, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 9.04 per cent year-on-year to $375.772 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 3.22 per cent to $426.579 million.

Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 11.52 per cent year-on-year to $338.298 million during the period under review.

In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
