Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 10.41 per cent year-on-year to $962.819 million during the four-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 0.63 per cent to $809.704 million.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $12.116 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 71.54 per cent compared to exports of $42.566 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.
Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 11.19 per cent and fetched $392.752 million, as against exports of $442.252 million made during July-October 2017. Exports of cotton fabric decreased marginally by 0.25 per cent and were valued at $713.289 million during the first four months of fiscal 2018-19, while bedwear exports increased by 2.10 per cent to $771.204 million, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 8.80 per cent year-on-year to $189.267 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 8.98 per cent to $196.490 million.
Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 22.99 per cent year-on-year to $154.804 million during the period under review.
In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
