Piyush Goyal likely to present Interim Budget 2019-20

Minister of railways Piyush Goyal is likely to present Interim Budget for financial year 2019-20, as he has been given the additional charge of the finance and corporate affairs ministries in view of indisposition of Arun Jaitley, who is currently undergoing treatment abroad. Jaitley has been designated as a minister without portfolio until he resumes work.
 
“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, hereby directed that during the period of indisposition of Arun Jaitley, minister; the portfolios of minister of finance and minister of corporate affairs held by him, be temporarily assigned to Piyush Goyal, in addition to his existing portfolios,” a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said.
 
“Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, Arun Jaitley be designated as minister without portfolio during the period of his indisposition or till such time he is able to resume his work as minister of finance and minister of corporate affairs,” the statement added.
 
The finance ministry is currently preparing the Budget of the present government, before the nation goes to polls in April-May this year. The Budget is scheduled for presentation in Parliament on Friday, February 1, 2019. (RKS)
