The Port of Los Angeles has handled 782,249 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in November 2025, marking a 12 per cent decline from last year’s elevated cargo volumes. Despite the monthly slowdown, total container throughput for the year reached 9,447,731 TEUs with one month remaining, up 1 per cent compared to 2024.
Port executive director Gene Seroka said the port is on track to close 2025 with more than 10 million TEUs, ranking the year among its top three busiest on record. He noted that cargo moved without congestion, with no vessels delayed offshore, underscoring the reliability of port operations despite ongoing trade uncertainty.
“That’s a credit to our longshore labour, truckers, terminal operators, rail partners and every stakeholder who keeps this complex system running smoothly. That kind of reliability is why 200,000 importers and exporters each year continue to choose Los Angeles – and trust us in any market condition,” Seroka said at a media briefing.
In November, loaded imports totalled 406,421 TEUs, down 11 per cent year on year, while loaded exports fell 8 per cent to 113,706 TEUs. Empty container movements stood at 262,122 TEUs, reflecting a 13 per cent annual decline, the Port of Los Angeles said in a release.
