Q4 2023 GDP stable, employment up 0.3% QoQ in eurozone; EU GDP up 0.1%

Seasonally-adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.1 per cent in the European Union (EU) in the fourth quarter (Q4) last year compared with the previous quarter, according to a flash estimate published by Eurostat, the EU statistical office.

GDP had declined by 0.1 per cent in both zones in Q3 2023.

According to the first estimate of annual growth for 2023 based on quarterly seasonally- and calendar-adjusted data, GDP increased by 0.5 per cent in both the euro area and the EU.

The number of employed persons increased by 0.3 per cent in both the zones in Q4 last year quarter on quarter (QoQ). In Q3 2023, employment had increased by 0.2 per cent in both zones, an official release said.

In Q4 2023, employment increased by 1.3 per cent year on year (YoY) in the euro area and by 1.2 per cent YoY in the EU, after growing by 1.3 per cent YoY in the euro area and by 1.2 per cent YoY in the EU in Q3.

Employment increased by an estimated 1.4 per cent in the euro area and by 1.3 per cent in the EU last year.
